Mission Statement
The Resource Institute is a non-profit organization for small and diverse businesses that provides referral services and access to procurement opportunities, capital and training.

What is a Small Business?
Small Business Administration (SBA)
Rule of thumb: SBA has established a size standard for most industries in the economy. The most common size standards are as follows:


- 500 employees for most manufacturing and mining industries
- 100 employees for all wholesale trade industries
- $6 million for most retail and service industries
- $28.5 million for most general & heavy construction industries
- $12 million for all special trade contractors
- $0.75 million for most agricultural industries

What is a Diverse Business?
Women-Owned and Operated Businesses
Women’s Business Enterprise National Council
Rule of thumb: Woman ownership of at least 51% with proof of effective management and control of the business (operating position, by-laws, hire-fire and other decision-making role, signature role on loans and contracts), contribution of capital and/or expertise, independence and
U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Resident Alien Status

Minority-Owned and Operated Businesses
National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC)
Rule of thumb: Minority group member is an individual who is a U.S. citizen with at least 1/4 or 25% minimum (documentation to support claim of 25% required from applicant) of the following:
Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic, and Native American
